2013
started strong with the anime series Sword
Art Online or S.A.O. The series was embraced by fans with a very
strong following, from hundred s of fans cosplaying as their favorite
characters Kazuto Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki to the purchase of the series’
merchandise. But as the year comes to a
close another hidden gem emerged from the thousands of anime shows released; Attack of Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin.
The
story is set on a world where giant skinless humanoid creatures, called Titan,
have nearly wiped out humanity. What
remains of humanity now resides within a country surrounded by concentric
walls. The series revolves around Eren Yeager, his adopted sister Mikasa
Ankerman, and their friend Armin Arlest. It starts with humanity living in
peace for a hundred years. Then out of
the blue appeared a gigantic sixty meter Titan that has breached the outermost
wall allowing smaller Titans to enter and begin killing and devouring the
people inside. Oh yeah did I forget to mention the Titans eat people? Even though they don't need to in order to
survive? INTENSE! More on that as the
series continues. So thus, our hero begins his story. But alas, we don’t want to spoil it but the
first volume pretty much sets you up to the atmosphere of the story!
Attack
on titan was written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. The novel series was created in 2011 and was
then made into an anime adaptation in 2013 on which Funimation got the license
to distribute it in North America.
Attack on Titan has become a commercial success thanks to the helping boost in the anime adaptation for those who would rather watch then read. You know who you are! It has received critical acclaim for its atmosphere and story which has been the subject of controversy. The creation of the anime led Skingeki no Kyojin to receive over 1,000 death threats. Later it was discovered that is was not a native to Japan and it was the same comment copy and pasted over and over again. Yet, anime fans continue to show love for the anime. With this being said, you should give the manga a try! Just don't be nitpicky of its art style in comparison. And as like all manga to anime adaptation there will always be some alternate scene to pass the rating system. In the manga, anything goes. The U.S publication is where they still censor some of those details.
With the popularity of the walking dead gore and action, Attack on titan really got the fans attention. It's still an ongoing series so if you wanna try to give a go. You can check out the story at mangahere.com or mangastream.com or any of your choice free manga websites. Hope you like our first take on anime recommendation and hope we could do a future review and preview of new and old anime series.

Agreed Toki Nakamura! The premise of this show itself is enthralling and if we continue to have animes that can captivate an audience then I am definitely one of the optimists.
